People often consider therapy for some time before they make an appointment; maybe a few weeks or sometimes a year or longer.  For some there may be fear of being judged by the therapist or being perceived as weak by friends, family, or society.  For others it may be more about an idea that therapy is only for people who have serious mental illness or who have experienced a recent traumatic event.  The truth is that everybody, regardless of history, can benefit from therapy.  It is a sign of great strength to be able to recognize that something in your life isn’t working and to have the courage to do something about it.
